The speech education in contemporary America mainly aims to cultivate the ability of interpersonal communication and social activity, to cultivate self-confidence and healthy personality, and help them improve the ability of job selection and career pursuit. The cultivation of verbal skills is regarded as the basic factor to help the student take up an occupation, pursue the success of career and effectively take part in the democratic social life. The trend of speech education in contemporary America includes the diversification of students" ethnicity and ancestry, the widespread application of communication technology of informational media, the application of distance educational model in speech classroom.
