In bronze inscriptions, there are large numbers of compounds that can be classified as individual names. Among them, the type of names that consist of a place (or lineage) name and characterren refers to an individual coming from that place or lineage. Also, these names do not equal to the individual names mentioned in receive texts. Nonetheless, the compound that consists of a place (lineage)name, characterren , and personal name usually indicates the individual held an official title. The transition from double-component compounds to triple-component compounds might illuminate the focus shifting from consanguinity to geopolitical issues during the Western Zhou era.
