Our Redwood Furniture Industry Needs New Way to Go

红木家具不能代表全部的中国传统家具,也不能代表全部的明式家具和清式家具;明清家具的形制与功能已与当今人们的生活方式大相径庭;珍贵树种木材的资源已趋枯竭,红木家具业现在的规模已不可持续。红木家具业必须走出一条新路,新路的路径之一是去产能化,淘汰一批拙劣企业;路径之二是走高端化、奢侈品路线,提高产品的艺术和技术含量,从而提高产品的附加值。

Redwood furniture does not represent all of the Chinese traditional furniture and all kinds of the Ming and Qing style furniture. The shape and function of the Ming and Qing furniture have been very different with people’s lifestyles today. Rare species timber resources have become exhausted. Redwood furniture industry has been unsustainable. In addition, redwood furniture industry must embark on a new path. One of the new ways is to go the path of production capacity and eliminate a number of poor corporate. The second way is to take the high-end, luxury line and improve the artistic and technical content so that to improve the value of product.
