19世纪末到20世纪初工程学的蓬勃发展曾刺激了建筑学新理念的生成,之后的发展两者渐行渐远,很多仁人志士不满于两者分离的负面影响而提倡结合与交融,以避免一个在封闭系统中的形式操作对于当代多样化的回馈无力,另一个缺少本质的形式动因而使建筑学沦为纯形式的游戏。针对戴维·P·比林顿教授的《塔与桥:结构工程的新艺术》书中关于结构艺术独立的观点,从建筑的角度出发提出质疑,进而探讨更加开放的结构观。
