诗歌翻译策略的“分”与“合”——以《黄鹤楼送孟浩然之广陵》的四个英译本为例

Dichotomy and Unity of Strategies for Translating Poetry A Case Study of Four English Versions of “Huanghelou Song Meng Haoran Zhi Guangling”

传统译论往往将诗歌翻译策略截然两分,并因论者的偏好而持其一端。詹姆斯·霍姆斯将诗歌翻译中的问题分为三个层次,并从两个参考轴线考察译者的策略取向。借用这种方法对李白诗歌《黄鹤楼送孟浩然之广陵》的四个英译本进行分析发现,虽然整体策略取向不尽相同,但是每个译本都运用了所谓对立的策略。不仅如此,四个译本目的取向殊途同归,且都产生了重大影响。由此可见,截然两分的诗歌翻译策略实际上是统一的。

Traditional observations on the strategies of poetry translation tend to embrace a dichotomy with a preference for either part of the division. James S. Holmes groups the problems in poetry translation into three planes and examines the translator＇s fa- vored strategies on two axes. Analysis of four English versions of LI Po＇s ＂Huanghelou Song Meng Haoran Zhi Guangling＂ by vir- tue of Holmes＇ approach shows that, although their overall strategies differ, the four versions all encompass the so - called dichot- omous strategies. Moreover, the four versions aim for similar goals by different means and have all exerted a strong influence. It follows that the dichotomous strategies of poetry translation are, in effect, unified.
