摘要
以认知语言学原型范畴理论为基础,从概念隐喻和意象图式的角度探讨英语过去时的功能多义性,为语法研究提供新的视角。
The past tense is regarded as a multifunctional category since it has three different functions. The past tense indicates past time, the unreality of an event or state and functions as pragmatic softening. Past tense has been studied by linguists and grammarian for a long time. This paper tries to apply a new approach to analyze the past tense that is in the view of cognitive linguistics with the help of the prototype category theory conceptual metaphor and image schema.
