摘要 意义理论是Charles C.Fries语言学理论的重要组成部分。Fries认为,语言的意义可以按照其执行的社会功能来分类。任何言语信号的"意义"包含的不仅是引起发生特定语音的实际情况,而且是这些特定语音(通过语言)在另一个人身上产生的实际反应。语言的全部意义体现在词汇意义、语法结构意义和社会文化意义这三个层次上。Fries的意义理论对外语教学的启示是:重视对目的语和源语社会文化的学习;同时重视对"语境中的词语",特别是词语搭配的教学。 The Meaning Theory is an essential part of C.C.Fries' linguistic theories.Fries argued that the meaning of language can be classified in terms of the social function it performs.The meaning of any signals of language includes not only the stimulus situation that brings about the utterance but also the practical re- sponse which it elicits via specific vocal sounds( language)from the utterance receiver.The whole meaning of language is represented in three aspects,i.e.lexical meaning,grammatical structural meaning and social-cul- tural meaning.The pedagogical implication of Fries' Meaning Theory is as follows: 1) Pay more attention to the study of the social cultures of both source language and target language; 2) Pay more attention to the teaching and learning of "words in context", especially the collocations.
