有软硬两类，古诗中所谓“花枕”、“沉香枕”、“丁香枕”之类，当为以织物填充香料或植物之软枕，因实物难存，其源起渺难考证，而硬枕则往往经历史淘洗而犹有遗物或遗迹可寻。
