On Value Connotations of Pre-Qin Confucian Exemplary Character

先秦儒家的君子人格蕴含着多重向度的价值内涵:以"道"或"仁"为己任使得君子有别于其他社会角色;与"知"或"智"相伴能够确保君子把握人类生活的目的以及在各种情境中进行合理的抉择;凭借"勇",君子可以在道德理想与现实之间作出正确判断、捍卫人伦秩序和人自身的尊严。事实上,先秦儒家的君子人格正是以"仁"、"知"、"勇"三者的融会贯通作为道德理想,并由此建构起了批判现实的基本尺度。

Pre-Qin Confucian exemplary character contains multiple value connotations： Going after Dao or human char- acteristics makes him different from other social roles ; accompanying practical wisdom ensures him to grasp the purpose of human life and reasonable choice in various life situation; relying on courage helps him to judge correctly between moral ideal and real- ity, and to guard ethical order and his own human dignity. In fact, Pre-Qin Confucian exemplary character not only became ethi- cal ideal of Chinese traditional intellectuals, but also provided with a mirror which could reflect difficult positions of Chinese ancient society.
