Edward Bond has been the most controversial dramatist in the English dramatic history since the 1950s. The most apparent feature of his dramatic creation lies in his violence description, which makes audiences shocked and amazed. This paper deeply explores why Bond always takes violence as the theme of his dramatic creation from such aspects as the influence of new realistic drama, the personal traits of the dramatist and his unique concept of social order and points out that Bond＇s creative intention is not to describe violence but to arouse people to think so as to find out solutions to social problems and then to construct perfect society.
