A Reconsideration on the 1908 Visit of the Great White Fleet to Xiamen

《九州学林》第七卷第二、三期连载马幼垣先生大作《美国舰队清末两访厦门史事考评》上、下篇,详考1908、1910年美国海军舰队两度访问厦门的相关史实,发前人未发之覆。笔者认为,该文在史料利用层面仍留有余地,而相关批判也有值得商榷处。本文拟用相关档案、日记等材料补充大白舰队访厦史实,并结合中德美联盟由酝酿至破灭的历史过程,进一步解析此事件的国际背景。

Professor Ma Youyuan has carefully reconstructed the historical facts of the 1908 and 1910 visits of American squadrons to Xiamen(Chinese Cultural Quarterly Vol.7,No.2,3),but there is still room for further studies both in the historical and the cognitive aspects.In this paper,The author added relevant facts of the 1908 visit by the Great White Fleet to Xiamen,and explained the international background of this incident.
