Narrative Function of Songs in Mo Yan's The Song of a Young Garlic Shoot Heaven

莫言长篇小说《天堂蒜薹之歌》借用瞎子张扣这位清醒的社会边缘人之口,以歌谣的形式重现了天堂蒜薹事件全过程的部分,与小说主体部分交错叙述的两个故事共同构成一个完整的叙事文本。歌谣贯穿小说始终,成为小说叙事的线索,歌谣在小说叙事中也承载着"见证"功能和评价功能。

The song of young garlic shoot heaven by Mo Yan is constituted by the songs sung by a blind person Zhang Kou at the be- ginning of each chapter, with the two stories narrating through the main content. The author takes advantage of Zhang Kou who is sober about the society, which is reproducing the process of the young garlic shoot event of heaven in the form of songs.The songs are the clues of the novel, running through the whole course.In addition, the blind and his songs have significant functions in the story：the function of testi- mony and evaluation.
