The Time Of Flight Diffraction （TOFD） technique is used in the detection of metal spiral case welding in Xiangjiaba Hydropower Station. The principles, processes and precautions of TOFD detection are described in detail and the results of detection are summarized herein. Comparing with UT technology, the results of TOFD technique is more accurate. The third-party inspections show that no item should be detected in the welding of spiral case is missed.
