Language is used strategically. Speech act theory lays down the theoretical foundation for pragmatic strategies, and indirect speech act theory and cooperative principle serve as a bridge for their application. The flou- ting of cooperative principle provides more freedom for the choice of utterances, and it is the realization of pragmatic strategies in the process of communication.
