The Czechoslovakia Event in 1968 was a critical event during the cold war heading for ease, and it was an essential event for the East-West relations too. In the event, the British government set the"encouraging but not wedging" principle to not sever the relations between east European countries and Soviet Union, and the policy of not solely confronting Soviet Union. The Britain's East European policies had an obvious duality. They depended largely on the Britain's policies towards Soviet on the one hand, and owned some independence on the other. Throughout the cold war era, Britain kept contact with the east European countries in a long run to promote deep social changes in these countries. When contacting with the east European countries, Britain also emphasized the unity of western alliance.
