论中国文化中的自由精神——以《新民丛报》为考察对象

Discussion on Free Spirit of Chinese Culture——Taking Miscellany for New Citizens as Object of Study

虽然近代自由思想产生于西方文化,但是它要想在中国文化中成长,必须与中国文化进行交汇融合。当《新民丛报》学人传播西方自由思想时,形成了对中国文化中有无自由精神的复杂认识。一些人认为中国文化中没有自由精神,另一些人则认为中国文化中有自由精神,还有一些人有时认为中国文化中有自由精神,有时又认为中国文化中没有自由精神。这主要是由于他们本身对自由精神的认识标准不一样。一些《新民丛报》学人为了使自由在中国扎根,认为中国文化中有自由精神,特别是儒家学说中有与近代自由主义相通的自由精神。

Ahhough the modern thought of freedom is introduced from the Western culture, it had to grow and root in China through Chinese culture. When authors of Miscellany for New Citizens spread Western free thought in China, their thoughts were different. Some people thought free spirit is inexistent in Chinese culture, and others thought free spirit is existent in Chinese culture. Some people thought free spirit is sometimes existent in Chinese culture, and is sometimes inexistent in Chinese culture. That was mainly due to their different liberal understanding standards. Many authors of Miscellany for New Citizens thought free spirit is existent in Chinese culture, especially the free spirit of Confucius＇ doctrine is just as the same as that of the modem times.
