摘要
詹姆斯·乔伊斯的短篇小说《阿拉比》使用象征主义的写作手法,通过小男孩对爱情朦胧追求的破灭,象征都柏林人、甚至是爱尔兰人丧失了宗教信仰、僵死瘫痪的精神状态。在现代视角下,这篇小说使读者可以得到精神上的启迪,一方面精神家园不能荒芜,另一方面也要脚踏实地,不做白日梦,实实在在依靠自己的能力去创造幸福生活。
Araby is one short story taken from James Joyce＇ s Dubliners which is written in symbolist writing techniques. The story is widely judged to depict the prevailing paralysis of spiritual belief in Dublin, in Ireland and even in the whole western world through the disillusionment of a little boy＇ s dream of love. Nevertheless, when we read Araby today, we can still get spiritual inspiration in modern background. This thesis mainly analyzes the meaning of Araby in modern perspective. On one hand, we cant leave our spiritual world deserted. On the other hand, we should be realistic and down to earth and rely on ourselves to create a happy future.
