Brief Analysis on Selection of Non-finite Verbs in Causative Constructions

基于语料库,采用多项显著共现词素分析法,对大量真实语料统计分析后发现,英语中使役构式对其动词词槽中的非谓语动词有选择性,不同使役构式所吸引的非谓语动词并不相同,证明了各使役构式有其独特的语义,并不能作为同义词进行相互替换。

This paper seeks to determine that the non-finite verbs are distinctively associated with their English causative constructions, using multiple distinctive co lexeme analysis. It is revealed that, a particular periphrastic causative construction has strong preference on its non-finite verbs. The variation of the verbs demonstrates that causative constructions cannot be swapped as synonyms, since each construction has its respective semantic meaning. This research has filled the research gap of infinite verbs in causative constructions, and provides positive guides to the second language teaching.
