This paper presents the preparation, performance properties and field uses of viscosity and filtrate loss reducer DWG Ⅰ for cement slurries for oilwell cementing. DWG Ⅰ is a product of sulfonated hydrolyzed polyacrylonitrile with citric acid, MgO, ZnCl 2 and other chemicals. Addition of DWG Ⅰ in several percent significanlty improves the fluidity and rheologic behavior and decreases the filtrate loss of the grade G cement slurries, increases the strength of the setted cement and controls the consistence development and setting process in such a way that the consistence and setting curves obtained are of rectangular form. The cementing operations with DWG Ⅰ treated slurries in two wells are successful.
