Power of the People:——The Relationship between Mass Culture and State Power

西方历史学家自1960年代开始在马克思主义和年鉴学派的影响下开始关注底层大众的历史,"文化转向"又使史学家越来越重视文化现象背后的权力运作关系,两相结合产生了大批重要的有关大众文化的历史著作。本文主要从近年来在史学界产生一定影响的海外历史学家的著作来探讨大众文化与国家政权之间的关系,提请关注普罗大众的权力及其对国家政权这一宏大主旨的影响。

Under the aegis of Marxist doctrine and the Annales School, western historians have been concerned with the history of common people since the 1960s. The later ＂cultural turn＂ drew more and more historians＇ attention to the manip- ulation of power behind cultural phenomena. Against such an academic circumstance, there emerged a series of historical works about the mass cuhure. This article mainly explores the relationship between the mass culture and the state power based on the discussion of several influential historical books written by some over.as Chinese historians, thus appealing for due attention to the power of the ordinary people and its critical effect on such a grand theme as the state power.
