A broad overview is given of the recent developments in integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) plants. Presented in this paper are the major IGCC projects either already implemented or currently in progress in various countries of the world and the performance targets of the second generation IGCC plants. This type of gas and steam turbine combined cycle power plants as represented by the IGCC is widely believed to be a major thrust of the energy and power delivery schemes in the coming century.
