A Corpus-based Analysis on the Characteristics of Paper Abstract in Western Medical Journals

在对西方医学期刊论文摘要的体裁结构和语言特色的研究中发现,西方医学英文摘要都是由四语步组成;各语步中包含不同的步骤;每个语步由于其具体要求及功能不同,所以作者也会选择不同的时态;被动语态频繁出现于方法和结果语步;第一人称代词"我"的使用和前人得出的结论相反,频繁出现在论文摘要中。通过研究,期望能给中国学者写作医学英文摘要时提供一些参考性意见。

The paper studies the genres and language characteristics of paper abstracts in western medical journals based on a self - built abstract corpus. It is found that western medical English abstract is generally composed by four moves. The author chooses different tense due to its specific requirements and function of each move. Passive voice is frequently appearing in the move of method and result. In contrast with the previous research, the first personal pronoun ＂I＂ fre- quently appears in the thesis. We expect to provide some reference to Chinese scholars when writing an abstract of medi- cal research papers in English.
