新近发现的《袁枚日记》具有很高的文学史价值,还原了二百多年前袁枚晚年的生活。从《日记》可看出:他的风情诗是对他"放诞无检"生活的真实描写;他精美绝伦的山水之篇记录了他晚年出游祖国东南一带大好河山的豪情;他《随园诗话》、《子不语》的素材很多来自于交游活动中;他作为乾嘉诗坛广大教化之主,让社会各阶层人物都能享受诗文化,使诗歌创作活动成为常人都可参与的游艺活动。

The recently-discovered Yuan Mei Dairy has great literary value, which shows his true life and literary activities. From the Dairy, we can see that his love poems are the true portrayal of his dissipated life. His wonderful travel notes recorded the scenery in south-east China. His writing ability was related closely with his interest in travelling. The source material of Suiyuan Poetry Talks and Zibuyu came from his large circle of friends. As the leader of the circle of poets, he made poetry culture of all the people and by all the people.
