A classic 'star-is-born' moment occurred this season on the Metropolitan Opera stage when American soprano Christine Goerke sang the role of Dyer's wife in Richard Strauss' s Die Frau ohne Schatten.She sang the difficult role with ample force,with an easy top and strong bottom registers,while also conveying the internal struggle of the character.This triumph is particularly heartfelt for the soprano,who experienced a vocal crisis ten years ago which almost decimated a promising career.
