The technique of the soft string in the erhu performance is one of the major technique for enhancing the aesthetic feeling of music, increasing the expressive power of the performance, promoting the flow of music, and improving the atmosphere. It is also the label of the player＇s personal style. The soft string is a comprehensive tech- nical process, which is closely related to erhuls basic skills, intonation and the treatment of the works. It is not easy to have a good command of it. This paper analyzes the soft string from such aspects as the relationship between the basic skill and the soft string, the playing posture and the technique of the soft string, the relationship between the position and the soft string, the help of the long bow for the soft string, and the reflection of the practicing works of ＂ The Carts Ballad＂, thus doing a significant exploration of the mysteries of the soft string.
