殷商西周金文中的"蔑历"基本用于被动式,在主动式中则一般为"蔑某历"。"蔑某历"的语法结构是"VP·间接宾语·直接宾语",而"蔑历"的语法结构是"VP·直接宾语"。"蔑"跟"赐"、"赏"的用法类似,意思是"赏赐"。"历"是一个名词,只能在句中充任宾语,它由"厤"、"甘"二字组成,意思是"佳肴"。因此,"蔑历"的意思就是"赏赐佳肴"。
In the Shang and Western Zhou Dynasties Jin Wen, ＂蔑历＂ is used in the passive mode basically, it becomes ＂蔑某历＂when it is used in the active mode. The grammar structure of＂蔑某历＂ is ＂VP＋ indirect object＋ direct object＂, while that of ＂蔑历＂ is ＂VP＋ direct object＂. The usage of ＂蔑＂ is similar to that of＂赐＂＂赏＂which means ＂grant a reward＂. ＂历＂ is a noun, which could merely be used as the object in a sentence. It consists of＂厤＂＂甘＂which means ＂delicacies＂. There- fore, ＂蔑历＂ means ＂grant delicacies＂.
