传记在某种程度上是经过伪装的自传。传记书写者通过移情等方式,把自己的某种情绪或感受投射到传主身上,从而完成对自己的书写。过度移情的传记,虽然会不可避免地降低文本的客观性,但是对于分析书写者自身的身份认同,却具有重要的价值。赛珍珠所撰写的传记《异邦客》,就是因为其中强烈的移情性质,使其在描述传主母亲凯丽身为多重意义上的边缘人时,也揭示了她本人早年的边缘经历和相关感受。

Biographies are disguised autobiographies to some degree. The authors inject their own emotion or feelings onto the protagonists by such means as empathy, so that they can accomplish the writing about themselves.For some biographies, because of excessive empathy,the objectivity will be undoubtedly a- bated ,but they are of tremendous value for analyzing the writers＇ own identification.Pearl S.Buck＇s The Exile is such a biography.While depicting her mother Carie also reveals Pearl＇s own marginalized experience and as a multi-dimensioned Marginal Man, the biography related emotion.
