A Passage to India is a description of colonialism deep-rooted in British colonialists. In the novel, the three stages of British colonialism are reflected through Adela, Mrs. Turton and Mrs. Moore, who respectively represent different images of British colonial- ism: rising sun, risen sun and setting sun. From these three female characters, different colonial methods used in different stages can he found as well. The first stage is mainly from the aspect of gender, race and ethnicity; the second stage is from the aspect of culture and discourse, and the third stage is from the aspect of religion.
