“Outside the Boundary”:Counter-acting Rural Depletion in China

具流动型兼业传统的沿海偏乡孙村,依托乡土社会网络,以"同乡同业"形式,兴起遍及全国的金银首饰加工业,并形成该行业各生产要素的在地集结,体现了"城市中心—乡村边缘"格局的翻转、乡村"空心化"的反向运动以及经济与社会互嵌的"社会经济"特征。"界外"是非主流、另类、多元以及可能颠覆"中心"的"边缘"。

Located in a remote coastal region,Sun village is nonetheless an adventurous pilot beyond its traditional trade. Backed by the local social network,Sun villagers have been jointly engaged in jewellery processing business and have established franchises all over the country. Consequently,the village has become a hub of different sectors of the jewellery industry. The pattern of'city at the center,village in the margin'has thus been reversed and the otherwise gradual depletion of villages counterbalanced. A'social economy'with economy and society deeply interwoven has emerged.'Beyond boundary'here means the non-mainstream,alternative and diversified'margin'that is liable to subvert the'center'.
