吴敢的《金瓶梅》研究主要用力点包括两个方面:一是张竹坡与《金瓶梅》研究,一是20世纪金瓶梅研究史研究。主要代表性著作即《张竹坡与<金瓶梅>研究》和《20世纪金瓶梅研究史长编》,它们为金学大厦的建构奠定了重要基石。同时,吴敢担负了《金瓶梅》研究者队伍集结的学术使命,即学会与学刊的筹建和创办,他的这一学术活动为金学研究的学风建设以及各种学术典范建构做出了自己的实绩。

WU Gan＇ s Researches on The Golden Lotus mainly focus on the following two aspects： the re- searches on ZHANG Po-zhu and The Golden Lotus, the review on research history of The Golden Lotus in 20th century. His main representative works are： ZHANG Po-zhu and His Researches on The Golden Lo- tus, The Research History of The Golden Lotus in 20th Century, which are the basis of The Golden Lotus researches. Besides, WU Gan undertakes the mission to organize the researchers and publish their resear- ches, that is, to set up an association and a journal for The Golden Lotus researches, he makes many con- tributions to the future researches on The Golden Lotus.
