Running through the Ancient Times to the Present and Harmonizing the Western with Chinese Cultures——On Edward Slingerland' s English Version of Confucius Analects Based on the Theory of Cognitive Inharmony

从认知不协调理论出发,分析了汉学家斯林哲兰德《论语》英译本的翻译特色。斯林哲兰德熟读大量中国古代相关典籍,并将收集到的相关信息消化理解,融会贯通到译本中,完整地补充了《论语》中语句的认知语境,并对句义进行了详尽的阐释说明,帮助西方人重新构建认知,使他们完整、全面、深入地了解孔子的真实形象。他的译著使我们的儒学西传工作获得较为满意的传播效果,方法值得借鉴。

Based on the theory of cognitive inharmony, this paper analyses the features of Edward Slingerland＇s English version of Confucius Analects. Having read a large amount of relevant ancient Chinese classics, Sinologist Slingerland uses his knowledge about The Analects to make up for the context for the discontinuous meaning in the work, explain the meaning explicitly and elaborately, and help the western understand Confucius integrally, comprehensively and deeply. His translation is worth learning for its immeasurable and satisfactory effect on spreading Confucianism.
