Objective:To explore relationships among coping style and stressor, positive symptom in schizophrenics with differ- ent gender. Methods:202 adolescent patients with first-episode schizophrenia were assessed by self-made general situation question- naire, trait coping style questionnaire (TCSQ), stressor scale for middle school students, and scale for assessment of the positive symptoms (SAPS). Results: There was a negative corre].ation between the pressure and the negative coping in male teachers (P〈0. 05), while no correlation was found in female teachers. There was a positive correlation between the the family stress and the negative coping, but there was a negative correlation between the schoolmate and friend stress and the positive coping in females (P〈0.05), while no correlation was found in males. There was a positive correlation between the total scores of bizarre behaviors and the negative coping in females, while no correlation was found in males. There were negative correlations among the total scores of positive thinking form, scores of comprehensive evaluation for subscales, scores of positive syndrome scale and positive coping, while no correlation was found in females. Data from multivariate analysis showed that the gender was significantly associated with the positive symptoms. Con- clusions: There are differences in the coping styles among schizophrenics with different gender. If the coping styles are different, the symptom expressions are also different. There is a close correlation between the gender and the positive symptoms.
