On Constructing the Criteria for Pragmatic Foreign Language Competence in China

This paper has surveyed the current status of the criteria for pragmatic foreign language competence both at home and abroad, especially the domestic status; has analyzed the necessity of constructing better criteria in China; has clarified the theoretical basis of the criteria; has pointed out the problems existing in the present criterion--constructing process and the criterion--improving approaches, and has emphatically identified the content of the future criteria for better evaluating and developing the pragmatic foreign language competence of the foreign language learners and users and for meeting the demand of national development and international communication.
