[ Objective] To detect the contents of copper, zinc, iron, calcium and magnesium in the hair of 0-10 years old children, analyze the relationship of the change of microelement contents in children with gender and age and the nutritional status. [ Methods] The hair samples were collected from infants. After pretreatment, the contents of copper, zinc, iron, calcium and magnesium were detected by flame atomic absorption spectrometric method. The statistic method was adopted to analyze the results. [ Results] There were significant differences in contents of zinc and calcium between different gender ( P 〈 0. 05) ,but the differences of other elements were not significant ( P 〉 0. 05 ) . The contents of five elements in infants aged 0- 4 months remained at a high level. With the growth of age, the contents gradually decreased in 4 months to 3 years old, especially the zinc and calcium. The contents began to slightly rise again with the age increased to 8-10 years old. [Conclusion] Children especially in the age of 4 months to 3 years old should enhance the microelement supplement.
