The classification and emulsification mechanism of emulsified asphalt were briefly introduced in this paper. The applications of emulsified asphalt was summarized in road construction and maintenance, high-speed railway construction, collapse- preventing drilling fluid for oilfield and waterproofing materials, etc. At the same time, the main facts from the early 20th century to now were elaborated, related to the development of emulsified asphalt at home and abroad. According to the technology progress of emulsified asphalt, the diversification of bitumen emulsifier and high performance of emulsified asphalt will be an important development trend.
