Will James Liang be able to take Ctrip to all new heights?Although it has only been ten months since he has returned to Ctrip as CEO,there are those that feel the answer to this question is a definite 'Yes'.Ctrip is currently experiencing the same bottleneck that faces many giant enterprises:once Ctrip all but held a monopoly on this small market segment,but the rise of travel vertical search platforms such as Qunar have become a serious threat to Ctrip's online travel agent model.Meanwhile,other internet giants such as Baidu and Tencent have also been using mergers and acquisitions to enter the battle for market share in the travel industry.Although the industry is still experiencing rapid growth overall,Ctrip's growth has already fallen behind other rising enterprises that came late to the party.For years Ctrip controlled over half the online travel agent market,but in 2011 this market share finally fell below 50%.The travel industry is set to become one of the fastest growing industries over the next decade;however it remains to be seen whether Ctrip will be able to hold onto its top position.
