At the end of 2013,the founder of one small e-commerce company decided to close out the year in a big way:by buying each of his five executives a brand new car. While this choice may seems nuts to some it actually makes some sense considering that 'nuts' are what T-mall retailer Three Squirrels is all about. In 2013 Three Squirrel annual sales totaled over 300 million, meanwhile during Singles Day sales on November 11 the company ranked first out of all of T-mall's nut sellers earning over 35 million yuan in a single day. While happy for his company's success, these sales have also acted as a warning for the almost 40 year old company founder Zhang Liaoyuan.Leading a young inexperienced team where the average age is only 23.5,Zhang knows that the costs of making a mistake during this period of rapid growth may be more than the company could handle.
