This paper briefs the past and development of independent colleges until now in China, dealing with the reasons, its existing meaning and why they have come into existence. In the past decade independent col-leges have developed in a remarkable way meanwhile they are questioned by many people. A somewhat de-tailed analysis of the distinctions between other institutions of higher learning and them has been made and the further development strategies are also presented in the paper.
