Post- colonial Translation: Translation Up and Translation Down

美国翻译理论家戴维·贝娄斯在2011年提出了向上翻译和向下翻译的概念,用来解决描述不对称翻译关系的流动性方向概念,因为在后殖民翻译视域下,不同民族语言与文化之间的不对称和不平衡性得到集中体现。本文从后殖民的视角,对向上与向下翻译这组新概念进行分析。通过分析后殖民翻译对接受国语言和文化的影响,以及对译者主体性与翻译策略选择的影响,探讨不同民族、国家如何在不对称的语言、文化之间实现更好的交际。

In 2011, David Bellos, an American translation theorist, put forward Translation Up and Translation Down, a set of new concepts located in a vertical axis to describe asymmetrical relation- ships in terms of language and cultural translation. From the perspective of post - colonial translation, the asymmetry and imbalance between languages and cultures outstand clearly. The present study is to make an analysis of the concepts from the perspective of post - colonialism. By analyzing the impacts imposed on the language and culture of recipient countries and translators＇ subjectivity as well as the choices to translation strategies, recommendations are proposed on how to realize a better language and cultural communication among different nations.
