Objective:To study the brain functional activity of the gender-related differences between the male and female patients with chronic low back pain in resting state. Methods:Eight male and eight female patients with chronic low back pain participated by using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) in the experiment.Resting-state fMRI data were obtained from scanning the whole brain. The regional homogeneity (ReHo) approach was applied for fMRI data analysis. Results:Compared to the female patients, increased ReHo were found in the right parietal cortex, right temporal cortex, left frontal cortex, bilateral precuneus, bilateral posterior cingulate cortex and right cuneus in the male patients; while decreased ReHo were found in the bilateral cerebellar tonsil, cerebellar culmen, cerebellar declive in the male patients with chronic low back pain. Conclusion:The brain functional activity is different between the male patients and female patients with chronic low back pain in the resting state.
