复旦公学创校史实考

A Study on the Foundation of Fudan School

关于复旦公学创办的问题,由于没有充分利用第一手资料,既有的复旦大学校史记载与有关回忆太过简单,甚或有不少错误和失实之处。本文根据新挖掘的复旦公学校史资料,重新探讨复旦公学的早期校史,希望能更详细地再现复旦公学创校的曲折情况,展示在复旦公学创办与维持过程中,两江总督周馥、上海绅商、严复等所扮演的关键角色。其中,江督周馥之支持和资助,以及继任江督端方的常年拨款,对于复旦公学的肇建与维持,起了非常关键的作用,但官方的积极介入,也使得"公立复旦公学"逐渐演变为一准官办学校。

There are many mistakes and inaccuracies in the current studies on the history of Fudan School, mostly because the first-hand sources have not been taken full advantage of. Based on the recently explored materials on Fudan School, this paper makes research into some facts related to the foundation of Fudan School, revealing the complicated situation when it was found, and the key roles played by Liangjiang Governor Zhou Fu, Yan Fu, and the gentry and merchants in Shanghai, etc. The support and funds from Zhou Fu, and the annual allotments by his successor Duan Fang were crucial to the founding and maintaining of Fudan School. But on the other hand, the active authority intervention led Fudan School on the way to a government-run school.
