This paper studies the common ground between Psychoanalyst Harry Stack Sullivan and Phi-losopher Alfred North Whitehead in four parts,each dealing with a subject of mutual concern to the two respective thinkers.Part One examines the extent to which both thinkers were influenced by the insights of contemporary physics in formulating their view of the person.Part Two illustrates their consistency on the features of personality development.Part Three illustrates the common importance that the two thinkers attributed on language.Part Four touches on some areas of clinical interest from the application learned from the Whitehead Sullivan dialogues.Overall,this article reveals the poten-tials of Whitehead＆#39;s process philosophy as a means of providing a coherent theoretical ground for con-temporary psychiatry.
