“固始”县名考及其文化内涵

THE FOUNTAIN OF THE NAME OF "GUSHI" COUNTY AND THE CULTURAL CONNOTATION

一般认为固始县得名于刘秀分封重臣李通为"固始侯",而事实上"固始"一词源自先秦典籍《国语》,意指开创之始,只有坚固根本方能成功。刘秀以固始之地分封李通,有视之为一代贤相孙叔敖之意,而更名"固始",则蕴含有治国安邦的深刻道理与长治久安、江山永固的良好祝愿。所以"固始"之名,具有深厚的历史文化内涵。

Gushi County was named after LI Tong as the Marquis of Gushi. LI Tong was one of the most important subjects of the Em- peror LIU Xiu. In fact, the word of ＂Gushi＂ was derived from Guo Yu. And it meant that success must have a solid foundation at the beginning. So, as the title, ＂ Gushi＂ contained profound truth of ruling nation and with good wishes of long - lived. Thus the name of Gushi, there is a profound historical and cultural connotation.
