Qiong Qi, showing in two different images in tombs in different periods of the Han Dynasty, was a major mythical beast be- ing painted in a considerable portion of brick (stone) portraits in tombs in the Han Dynasty. Qiong Qi, with likeness of tigers, was shown on the tomb portraits from the mid - late Western HanDynasty to early Eastern Han Dynasty. However, most portraits in tombs of the Han Dynasty gave Qiong Qi the resemblances of oxen. Like a tiger but not a tiger and like an ox but not an ox, therefore Qiong Qi was called a mythical beast. This article is an exploratory study of Qiong Qi, and to seek the confirmation of colleagues in the field of the Han Dynasty portraits research.
