Objective: To investigate and analyse the quality of life after epilepsy surgery, and to discuss the relationship between self-efficacy and quality of life of the epileptic patients with mental symptoms. Methods: Postoperative three years follow-up studies were carried out on 138 cases of epileptic patients underwent stereotactic operation therapy. The quality of life and self-efficacy of epileptic were assessed by the two scales of quality of life in epilepsy-31 (QOLIE-31 ) and self-efficacy of chronic disease. The characteristics of the two scales and the main influencing factors were discussed, also the connection between them were found out. Results: There were no significant differences in surgical effect between the male and female patients. One-Way AN OVA statistics showed that the general health level, social function and emotional health of female patients were higher than those of the male. There were significant differences between them (P〈O.O 1 ). Conclusion: The stereotactic operation had a good effect in treatment of epilepsy ( 〉73% ), but the quality of life of patients was generally low. The quality of life of female patients was slightly higher than that of the male, but the differences were not significant. The level of self-efficacy and quality of life of patients were significantly correlated in various aspects. The self-efficacy level and quality of life can be improved through continuous postoperative follow-up and health education.
