互联网数据中心是随着互联网发展的需求而发展起来的一项新业务，它将对互联网的运作和运营模式起到巨大的革新作用，并能使互联网从“手工业”生产状态发展成大规模“工业化”生产，使新兴的网络经济真正具有现代化经济的特征。互联网数据中心的服务范围包括提供高速接入、主机托管、场地出租、VPN、电子商务、网站设计及各项管理等业务。ASP服务目前只占数据中心业务的很少一部分。
