“Heaven and Earth” and “Nature”: e Concept of “Nature” in Ancient China

在中国古代哲学中,关于自然,主要有两个概念:"天地"、"自然"。"天地"的最大功能是孕育生命,具有生态的意义。天地具有神圣性。人参与天地的创造。"自然"不是指物质,而是指物质的一种性质,此性质为自然而然,即本性。中国古代哲学中的"天地"、"自然"概念,其深刻内涵对于当今生态文明建设具有重要的意义。

In ancient Chinese philosophy, two concepts are related to nature, namely ＂heaven and earth＂ and ＂Nature＂. The major function of ＂heaven and earth＂ is to give birth to and nurture life, creating and tending the fundamental ecology. ＂Heaven and earth＂ are sacred despite-a profound irony-the participation of human beings in their creation. In this schema ＂Nature＂ does not refer to matter but to a quality of matter. e quality is spontaneity, an inherent and essential characteristic. e depth of meaning in the concepts of ＂heaven and earth＂ and ＂natural＂ man in ancient Chinese philosophy provides important lessons for the current ecology-our civilization of construction.
