Comments on the Books Undertaking of the Early Northern Song Dynasty

在五代战乱对图书造成严重破坏的背景下,北宋前期将发展图书事业作为重要的政府职能。发展图书事业的主要方法是:通过各种方式丰富国家藏书,编纂出版各类文献,重新编辑佛藏和道藏并将佛藏刻版流通。北宋前期大力发展图书事业,促进了北宋政权的迅速稳定和巩固,奠定了宋朝思想文化繁荣的文献基础,保护和传承了中国古代文献资料。

In the Five Dynasties （907-960）,war caused serious damage to the books. Accordingly,the early Northern Song Dynasty treated the development of books undertaking as one of the important government func-tions. Methods were taken to enrich National Library in various ways,compile and publish all kinds of literature, edit and collect Buddhist scriptures and Taoist Scriptures,and cut Buddhist blocks for printing. The early North-ern Song Dynasty vigorously developed the books undertaking,consolidated the regime of North Song Dynasty rapidly,laid a foundation of literature for the ideological and cultural prosperity,thereby protecting and inheriting the ancient Chinese literature.
