Sylvia Plath's poetry leaves a very strong impression of uncanniness upon the reader, which is due,on the one hand,to Plath 's macroscopic writing strategy that integrates realistic confession and surrealistic fiction and breaks the discursive boundary between the public and the private, and on the other,to her microscopic image construction that adopts a variety of uncanny motifs such as the double, animism, abjection and rebirth. In addition, what underlies Plath's uncanny writing is her postmodern awareness of ethics and her attempt at a new mode of expression to invoke the return of the other.
