Nationalism and Democratic Concept of National Northwest United University

西北联大在抗战时期不仅创造了辉煌的学术与教育成就,而且体现出强烈的民族主义思想与民主观念。联大学人彰显与弘扬中华优秀传统文化,积极倡导民族精神;号召广大国人树立民族自尊心与自信心,以抵抗日本帝国主义的侵略;主张建立广泛而全面的国内外抗日民族统一战线。西北联大的民主观念不仅体现在学校管理与办学实践中,而且联大学人自觉秉承与坚守"五四"以来的学术民主与自由传统,同时主张民主主义与民族主义的统一与结合。

During the period of Anti-Japanese War, Northwest United University not on- ly made the brilliant academic and educational achievements, but also reflected the strong na- tionalism thought and democratic ideas. Scholars in the university showed and carried for- ward the Chinese excellent traditional culture, and advocated the national spirit; appealed to people to build the national self-respect and self-confidence to resist the Japanese imperialist aggression. The democratic concept of Northwest United University was reflected in the school management and running practice system. What＇s more, the academic democracy and free tradition have been committed by the scholars since the May Fourth Movement, mean- while, they maintained the unification and combination of democratism and nationalism.
